Aguilar takes part of blame for Game 1 loss

The first game of the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals is now in the record books with Ginebra San Miguel crumbling to the San Miguel Beermen, 109-82.

Ginebra head coach Tim Cone takes all responsibility for the blowout loss but Japeth Aguilar wants to share in the blame.

“It is not all about coach (Tim Cone), we should take it upon ourselves as players,” said Aguilar.

In Game 1, Aguilar only had five points in 15 minutes, shooting 10% from the field.

After a bruising seven-game series against the Star Hotshots, Aguilar insisted that fatigue was never a factor in their loss.

“Energy-wise, we thought we had energy naman. Hindi naman energy yung key kasi they still beat us.”

Moving forward, the somewhat humiliating first game loss is something that Aguilar and his teammates do not want to dwell on.

“We just need to play better the next game. Game one is over, we just have to move on. We just didn’t play high level of basketball. We didn’t execute the game plan. That’s the ball game. They were really red-hot. They were really accurate,” said Aguilar.

But Japeth vows that Ginebra will come out stronger in their next game against the Beermen.

“It is Ginebra vs San Miguel, hindi kami synched, because yung defense din ng San Miguel. We just need to be better next time.”
