Barroca tops fan balloting, gets the start for Mindanao PBA All-Star

Star Hotshots playmaker Mark Barroca has emerged the surprise top notcher in fan balloting for the coming 2017 PBA All-Star Week featuring three separate legs in Cagayan de Oro, Lucena and Cebu.

Barroca, a native of Zamboanga, drew 32,793 from the in-venue and online votes and is thus leading the starting roster of the Mindanao selection versus Gilas Pilipinas in the CDO game on April 26.

Perennial top vote-getters James Yap (18,612) and Marc Pingris (11,079) are at it again, finding themselves in the starting casts of the Visayan and Luzon teams, respectively.

Scottie Thompson (18,641), PJ Simon (16,486), Rafi Reavis (10,043) and Cyrus Baguio (9,396) join Barroca in the Team Mindanao first five.

June Mar Fajardo (18,042), Terrence Romeo (15,069), Joe Devance (10,758) and Jeff Chan (9,419) make the Visayan starting cast with Yap while Calvin Abueva (11,538), Japeth Aguilar (11,159), Paul Lee (8,163) and Jayson Castro (6,627) start for the Luzon team with Pingris.

The Lucena game is set April 28 while the Cebu tiff is on April 30.

Making the reserves casts are Troy Rosario, Mac Belo, Jio Jalalon, RR Garcia, Sonny Thoss, Carlo Lastimosa, Glenn Khobuntin and Baser Amer for the Mindanao team, Alex Cabagnot, LA Tenorio, Marcio Lassiter, Stanley Pringle, Mark Caguioa, Arwind Santos and Ranidel de Ocampo for the Luzon squad and Chris Ross, Chris Ellis, Aldrech Ramos, Dondon Hontiveros, Ronald Tubid, Asi Taulava and Jericho Cruz for the Visayan side.

Coaches Chito Victolero, Leo Austria and Tim Cone call the shots for Mindanao, Luzon and Visayas teams, respectively.

Fajardo, Romeo, Abueva, Aguilar, Castro, Rosario, Belo and Jalalon are also set to play for the Gilas team in this All-Star spectacle.

The PBA has set this novel All-Star format to help Gilas in its preparation for the SEABA Championship slated May 12-18 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
