PBA shows full support to SEA Games campaign

KUALA LUMPUR – PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa and some members of the PBA board took a whirlwind journey here that was all worthwhile.

In between their Sunday and Wednesday games in the ongoing PBA Governors Cup, Narvasa and PBA governors Alfrancis Chua, Robert Non, Raymond Zorrilla, Erick Arejola, Silliman Sy, Patrick Gregorio and Ryan Gregorio showed up here to underscore support to Team Philippines.

PBA communications and external affairs director Willie Marcial and assistant to the commissioner, administration and special project director Pita Dobles were with the group that cheered the Gilas cadet team on its 129-34 mangling of Myanmar at the MABA Stadium Tuesday night.

On the eve of the Phl-Myanmar game, the Gilas cadets had a virtual bonding session with the Philippine women’s volleyball team in a dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel hosted by SMC chairman Ramon S. Ang, through Chua – the SMC sports director.

Von Pessumal (San Miguel Beer) and Kevin Ferrer (Barangay Ginebra) are players loaned by SMC to the Gilas cadet team while Mika Reyes, Rhea Dimaculangan, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Ces Molina are contributions by Ang to the Phl volleyball team from his Petron Tri-Activ squad.

Sy also watched the Perlas Pilipinas-Myanmar match in women’s play. Sy and their Ever Bilena company are the benefactors of the Phl basketball women’s squad.

The Gregorio brothers, meanwhile, showed up in other matches of Phl squads backed by the MVP Group of Companies.

Alaska Milk’s Carl Bryan Cruz, TNT KaTropa’s Troy Rosario, Meralco’s Baser Amer and Chris Tolomia are the other PBA players spearheading Gilas’ campaign here.

The whole Gilas group had its break from its regular regimen in its camp in a dinner with Chua.

“Noong nalaman pa lang ni Mr. RSA (Ramon S. Ang) napupunta kami dito, binilin kaagad i-dinner mo ang team,” said Chua. “It’s one way of expressing his support to the team.”
