Shorthanded GlobalPort cross paths with struggling Kia

GLOBALPORT returns to action in the PBA Governors Cup against KIA with an even greater resolve as a team.

The 4:30 p.m. encounter marks the first game for the Batang Pier since coach Franz Pumaren and star player Stanley Pringle engaged in a shouting match during a timeout huddle in the team’s 124-108 loss at the hands of Barangay Ginebra last July 30.

But Pumaren and Pringle had since smoked the peace pipe as the outspoken mentor described the incident as nothing but a normal thing within a ballclub.

“It’s just the heat of the moment. It’s just like married couples having their differences,” said Pumaren.

“But at the end of the day, it’s for the best interest of the team.”

Pringle is expected to play an even more active role in the Batang Pier’s game against the Picanto with backcourt partner Terrence Romeo still with Gilas Pilipinas in Beirut, Lebanon for the FIBA Asia Cup.

The match will also see the debut of Mac Baracael in a Globalport uniform following the three-team trade among the Batang Pier, Phoenix, and NLEX and involving Cyrus Baguio and Dylan Ababou.

The Batang Pier carry a 1-2 record and are at the bottom half of the standings.

But even worst is the Picanto, who have yet to show a win in six outings and are in danger of being the first team to be eliminated in the season-ending meet. Kia is coming off a 94-86 loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
