SMB taps balik-import McKines for Govs Cup

This after the burly but shifty balik-import was called up for a third tour of duty, this time with another team -- reigning and three-time Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Beermen.

After two failed bids as reinforcement of the Alaska Aces and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, McKines is looking forward to another stint as he joins his new squad, the Beermen.

"There are a lot of weapons. It's a very talented team," McKines said. "It's a very experienced team. Everbody's in their prime. I like my chances of winning my first championship in the PBA. I'd like to have that similar feeling of being a champion, similar to the one I had when I won a championship in Venezuela."

But McKines believes that joining the Beermen will make his job easier as he will now be playing alongside Fajardo.

"He is probably the best player in the PBA ever. Having him makes my job easier. Not only me, but everybody," added McKines.

We beat them in the semifinals when we had AZ (Reid)," said Austria. "We're having a hard time defending him because he's a good post up player. He's going to give the other teams problems because he's so athletic and double threat na naman kami sa post."
