Top 5 Players of the Week (September 4-10)






With eight playdates remaining in the 2017 PBA Governor's Cup, each game has significance for every team. The contenders are finally showing up while under the radar teams seek to win all their remaining games to keep their playoff chances alive. A Top 4 position guarantees a twice to beat advantage and a better shot of making the semi-final round.

Let's look at our Top Players of the week who with their exceptional performances have contributed in leading their respective teams to victory:

"The Spiderman" is playing one of his best conferences since winning MVP honors in 2013. Displaying his defensive prowess on one end and showing off his consistent shooting stroke by knocking down outside shots thru kick out passes from his teammates. The Beermen won 2 games this week against streaking teams in the form of the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. The Beermen look to clinch a top 4 slot in the quarterfinals as they journey for their second grand slam in franchise history.

Barangay Ginebra may have seen their seven game winning run snapped in the hands on San Miguel Beer but "Gregzilla" has been a pillar of strength this conference for the Gin Kings. With his injury behind him, Slaughter is producing consistent numbers as the main man in the middle for Ginebra. The Gin Kings are in a share of the top spot with last year's finals opponent Meralco Bolts with a 7-2 record.

The 2-time Best Point Guard in Asia awardee is slowly leading back TNT Katropa to a Top 4 slot this conference. This week, TNT notched a hard earned win against Meralco to put them with a tie with San Miguel who both have a 5-3 win loss card. Castro has picked up his game as of late and is still the focal point of the Katropa\'s dribble drive offense.

Calvin Abueva

12 pts 5 rebs 1 assts 1 stl vs Globalport (09-08-2017)

Abueva has been on "Beast Mode" as of late and is now making noise in the league with his superb play and on court tenacity. This week, the Aces defeated Globalport and KIA and are now riding high with a three game winning streak after starting the conference with six straight losses. Currently at the 8th spot with a 3-6 record, Alaska looks to clinch a quarterfinal berth and hope to upset one of the top 4 teams come playoff time.

Baser Amer

A leading candidate for the Most Improved Player award, Baser Amer has established himself as one of the best young court generals in the league. Under the mentorship of Asst. coach and former Gilas Pilipinas captain, Jimmy Alapag, Amer has shown the potential in leading Meralco back to the Governor's Cup Finals. This week, the Bolts were 1-1 as they suffered their second loss this conference against TNT and came back strong victorious at Sta. Rosa against the struggling Star Hotshots.
