Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare winds up its eliminations schedule against AMA Online Education on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Regardless the result of the 1 p.m. game, though, Gamboa enters the quarterfinals hard-pressed to win two games to advance to the Final Four.
For the Coffee Lovers, the main goal at hand is to gain momentum heading into the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup playoffs.
"Sabi ko naman sa kanila every game namin, mahalaga. Magandang baon yun papasok ng playoffs kung manalo kami kaya kung ano ang ginagawa namin, dagdagan na lang," said coach Jinino Manansala.
Gamboa-St. Clare (6-4) is elated to have clinched a spot in the playoffs after its 87-76 victory over Wangs-Letran last Tuesday, which formalized the top six teams advancing to the playoffs.
Manansala went to as far as expounding the importance of the feat, saying, "Malaking accomplishment sa amin ito."
What the Coffee Lovers can control, rather, is their positioning.
A victory puts Gamboa-St. Clare at the five-seed, setting it up for a collision course against Che'Lu-San Sebastian. A defeat, meanwhile, would drop them to six and a potential face off against the three-seed, which will be either CEU or Akari-Adamson depending on the final games.
Meanwhile, AMA (1-9) is just eyeing to get out of the cellar and snap its six-game losing funk to end the first conference.
