Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare clobbered Jose Rizal University in the third quarter to run away with a 93-76 victory in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup Monday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
"Gusto lang naming magbigay ng statement, na ang Gamboa kayang makuha yung respeto ng mga kalaban naming teams na nasa ibang liga," he said.
Fil-Am playmaker Trevis Jackson ignited the rally as he dropped 10 of his 25 points in the Coffee Lovers' 38-point third period explosion on the way to a 72-54 edge.
Chris Bitoon formed a perfect running partner for Jackson, dropping eight of his 18 markers in the frame, while also hauling down four rebounds and three assists, while Mohammed Pare lorded in the paint with his double-double 17 points and 12 boards.
Gamboa-St. Clare didn't have much trouble controlling the pace, outrunning the Heavy Bombers with its 28 fastbreak points, and punished its foes for its 23 miscues which led to 23 turnover markers.
This kind of victory is just what coach Jinino Manasala craves for as he hopes that the Coffee Lovers gain the respect of their foes in this foray in the developmental ranks.
Paolo Pontejos topscored JRU (1-2) with 16 points from a 4-of-8 three-point shooting, while MJ Dela Virgen got 14 markers in the loss.
