Go for Gold-CSB got off to good start and went on to beat University of Perpetual Help, 81-69, on Tuesday to snapped a two-game slump in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the JCSGO gym in Cubao, Quezon City.
JJay Alejandro scored 23 points,Clement Leutcheu had 14 while Jerwin Gaco and Justin Gutang contributed 11 apiece for the Scratchers, who repelled repeated comebacks by the Altas.
The trio of Alejandro, Leutcheu and Gaco made their presence felt in the second quarter to help Go for Gold built its first double digit lead at 39-29 advantage late in the second period.
"I think we're slowly getting the team that we want. But there's still some room for improvement because we turn the ball over too much," said coach Charles Tiu, noting the Scratchers' 30 turnovers, 11 more than the Altas.
Still, Tiu was relishes their second win in four games that tied Go for Gold with Wangs Basketball-Letran and Che'Lu Bar&Grill-San Sebastian for sixth to seventh spots.
Go for Gold's miscues enabled Perpetual to comeback from a double digit deficit and moved within 54-59 after three quarters.
But Alejandro struck again with successive 3-pointers to spark a 10-to-nothing run and kept the Altas at bay.
Rey Anthony Peralta paced Perpetual (1-2) with 18 points and two rebounds, while Kim Aurin had 17 markers and four boards.
