Jinino Manansala promises to give CEU a run for its money

Centro Escolar University tests the mettle of Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare on Thursday determined to galvanize its hold of first place in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City..

The Scorpions have already secured their place in the playoffs but another win in their scheduled 12 p.m. match against the Coffee Lovers would bolster their bid for an outright semi-final berth.

Tuesday's 90-85 victory against Perpetual extended CEU's winning streak to four games. But the Scorpions may encounter rough sailing trying to make it five in a row.

With a 4-3 record the Coffee Lovers are hard-pressed to get a W to stay in contention for a playoff spot. And they are capable of getting the job done.

Testament to it was their 107-106 overtime win against Zark's Burger-Lyceum last Tuesday.

Apparently, CEU coach Yong Garcia is aware of the danger confronting his troops so he cautioned them against complacency.

"Ang focus namin, hindi muna ang playoffs. Ang paghahanda namin, one game at a time," Garcia said.

Their stunning victory against Zark's Burger-Lyceum has raised the confidence level of the Coffee Lovers and coach Jinino Manansala believes they can give CEU a run for its money.

"Ang ganda ng panalo namin. Tiwala ako na handa na kami sa CEU," he said.
