Marinerong Pilipino, Wangs Basketball-Letran bound to go separate ways

Win number three is what Marinerong Pilipino and Wangs Basketball-Letran badly crave for, but only one will hit the target on Thursday as the two teams clash in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at Pasig Sports Center.

Fresh from snapping their two-game losing skid with a 92-78 victory over Batangas-EAC last week, the Skippers are hoping to put their struggles behind them and improve to 2-2 record.

And coach Koy Banal is keeping his finger crossed that the week-long preparation would turn the fortunes around.

"I've been putting premium on our preparations. Again, we just have to be smart in our games. Hopefully, we use this win against Batangas as a spring board for us to move up the rankings," he said.

The duo of Rian Ayonayon and Renzo Subido have been solid so far this conference for the Skippers, but Banal would love to see more contributions from the others, especially his bluechip rookies like Alvin Pasaol and Abu Tratter.

On the other hand, the Couriers are still beaming with positivity despite dropping a slim 93-95 defeat to Zark's Burger-Lyceum last Monday.

Impressive as Wangs-Letran has been in the last tiff, coach Jeff Napa insists he's not yet satisfied with their performance.

"Syempre ang gusto ko pa ring makita yung consistency namin especially sa defense," he said after going so close of toppling the powerhouse Jawbreakers.

"Gusto ko sana na yung mga lapses namin, ma-correct and ma-limit namin yung turnovers namin."

Napa will be leaning on the leadership of Bong Quinto and JP Calvo, together with his bevy of new recruits as the Couriers seek to break off of the five-way logjam at third with their 2-1 card.
