CEU has sights on pole position when it battles unpredictable AMA

CENTRO Escolar University seeks to gain pole position of Group A in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup when it crosses paths with AMA Online Education Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Scorpions are currently sharing the leadership with Marinerong Pilipino, but a win over the Titans in their 3:30 p.m. bout will hike their card to 3-0 and put them on top of the standings.

Momentum is on CEU's side as it is fresh from humiliating Nailtalk-Savio by 61 points, 107-46, last week.

But coach Derrick Pumaren only hopes that his side will be able to match AMA's athleticism, most especially against the ex-Ateneo Blue Eagles tandem of Aaron Black and Vince Tolentino.

"We just gotta be ready to match the athleticism ni Black tsaka ni Vince kasi right now hindi pa kami ganung team eh. Maybe there's a few na athletic pero hindi pa ganun," Pumaren said.

Rich Guinitaran and Senegalese big man Malick Diouf will once again be on the forefront of CEU's attack.

The Scorpions will be facing a Titans squad eager to return to the win column following the stinging 82-91 they absorbed in the hands of Marinerong Pilipino last August 8.

Aside from Black and Tolentino, coach Mark Herrera will also be relying on lanky forward Dennis Santos, who has averaged 31.0 points in AMA's previous two outings.
