Marinerong Pilipino eyes top two finish in duel against lowly UST

MARINERONG Pilipino seeks to boost its chances for a top two finish when it takes on lowly Builders Warehouse-UST on Thursday in the 2022 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Winners in their past two games, the Skippers want to make it three straight in the 3 p.m. game to follow up their 87-49 demolition of AMA Online on Tuesday.

At 4-1, Marinerong Pilipino is already secured of a playoff spot and is still very much in the running for the coveted top two spots which comes with an outright semifinals berth.

"Malapit na ang playoffs kaya kailangang ituloy natin yung ginagawa naming tama," said coach Yong Garcia.

Juan Gomez de Liano, who poured 31 points in that last game, will once again be the captain of the ship for the Skippers as they also expect big games from Paolo Hernandez, Bryan Lacap, and Toby Agustin in the absence of Blackwater callup Jollo Go.

However, a rejuvenated Growling Tigers stand in their way after earning their first win at AMA's expense courtesy of a 150-79 blowout on Wednesday.

Sherwin Concepcion became the 10th player to notch a triple-double in PBA D-League history in the triumph and will once again be counted on for the Growling Tigers.

Still, it's a tough back-to-back assignment for the Espana crew, which at 1-4, are desperate to make strides to make the cut in the six-team playoff and not be one of the first two teams to be given the pink slip.(RL)
