L-Jay Gonzales made his presence felt in the third quarter and Seaoil-FEU outlasted Family Mart-Enderun, 99-82, on Thursday in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
L-Jay Gonzales turned in 12 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists for the Extreme Racers, who got their acts together in the second half.
Tha ganme was tied at 63-all when Gonzales sparked Seaoil-FEU's 11-0 charge that gave the Extreme Racers a comfortable 74-63 edge with 2:06 left in the third quarter.
Emman Ojuola provided the finishing touches by pouring seven of his 14 points in the fourth period. Her also had six rebounds.
The Titans shot 17-of-35 in the first half, but the Extreme Racers held their opponent to a 9-of-30 clip with a stifling defense in the next two quarters to wrest control.
"Nagtaas na ako ng boses sa kanila," said coach Olsen Racela. "I was frustrated kasi di namin ginawa yung ginagawa namin in practice. We talked about being fundamentally sound on defense, pero di namin ginawa yun. We gave up 54 points in the first half. We need to improve on a lot of things especially defensively."
RJ Abarrientos scored 14 points built around four triples, that went with his five assists and three rebounds, while Ken Tuffin also added 14 for SEaoil-FEU.
Family Mart-Enderun banked on Michael Dela Cruz, who tallied 14 points and four rebounds.
Ivorian big man Pierre Kouakou, Joaquin Mariano, and Toci Tansingco each scored 13 for the Titans.
