Ahanmisi return a timely welcome for streaking Aces

MAVERICK Ahanmisi is a welcomed body presence for Alaska especially with the exit of Kevin Racal in the PBA bubble.

And to the credit of the Fil-Am guard, he is in good physical shape despite coming in late for the Aces' campaign in the Philippine Cup.

Ahanmisi's effort to stay in shape after staying in the U.S. earned him enough credit from coach Jeff Cariaso.

"What's nice and what I'm happy about is that he took care of his body. So even if he was in the States, he stayed in shape. So, he's actually looking fit. Payat siya ngayon," said Cariaso of the 29-year-old Ahanmisi, acquired by the team last year in a trade for Chris Exciminiano.

Ahanmisi missed Alaska's first three games and didn't see action until its game against Blackwater.

Although in good physical condition, Cariaso made it a point to slowly break Ahanmisi in, fielding him to just five minutes of play with the Elite before doubling the number the next game opposite Rain or Shine.

"I just want him there and have a feel of the court," said Cariaso of him managing the minutes of the comebacking guard.

So far everything is running smoothly for Ahanmisi as the Aces haven't lost yet since he came on board.

The Aces trampled the Elite, 120-82, and then followed it up with a scrappy 89-88 grind against the previously unbeaten Elasto Painters.

Ahanmisi was actually already in the bubble when Alaska broke through the win column, 87-81, against Magnolia, although the 6-foot-2 guard was still in room isolation after taking his swab test before joining the team.
