Alas ready to play, but awaits approval from Guiao

KEVIN Alas is still leaving it all up to coach Yeng Guiao if he'll finally be given the blessing to suit up for NLEX in the PBA Governors Cup.

The 27-year-old guard was supposed to play for the Road Warriors in their game against defending champion Magnolia on Sunday, but a last-minute change in decision by Guiao prompted the team to defer his comeback until Wednesday when the team plays NorthPort.

"Akala ko nga lalaro na ako ngayon, pero kinausap niya (Guiao) ako (last Saturday) na huwag na daw muna," said Alas, who celebrated on the sidelines with the Road Warriors following their pulsating 86-85 win over the Hotshots after being down by as much as 26 points.

Alas has just recuperated from his second ACL injury in less than two years which he suffered last February at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

That the Road Warriors were scheduled to face the Hotshots at the same venue prompted Guiao to defer Alas' comeback game.

"We postponed it kasi nasa Ynares na naman tayo tapos Magnolia na naman ang kalaban. So wala namang mawawala kung hindi kami magmamadali," said Guiao, who disclosed about the aborted plan to have Alas back in the team's active roster.

But had he been allowed to play against Magnolia, Alas said he's ready.

"More than one month na rin naman akong nagpa-practice sa team. Ready na ako," he said.

"Siguro more on utak na lang yung kalaban ko ngayon," adding that his situation could be more of a mental thing now rather than physical.

Guiao however, plans to do it slowly but surely for his prized playmaker.
