Anthony hopes to keep focus winning PBA title once COVID-19 pandemic is over

GOING to the new PBA season and even before the Enhanced Community Quarantine was declared in the entire Luzon, Sean Anthony had things all sort out for the Philippine Cup.

He wants no less than a championship as he enters his 10th year in the league.

"This is my 10th year now. And this year 10 is about winning a championship with the team and NorthPort as a team," said the 34-year-old forward.

Anthony has yet to win a breakthrough title in the league, his closest shot at winning it all came during his sophomore year with Powerade when as the eight-seeded team, it reached the Philippine Cup finals after stunning top seed B-Meg and Rain or Shine along the way.

The Tigers failed to complete their Cinderella story after losing to Talk 'N Text in the five games of the title series.

Anthony and the eight-seeded Batang Pier were almost in the same situation during the Governors' Cup last season when they stunned no. 1 team NLEX Road Warriors in the quarterfinals. They fell short against Barangay Ginebra Kings in the semifinals, though.

But with an intact roster going to the league's 45th season and Anthony finally getting a long overdue berth in the Mythical First Team and All-Defensive Team, it gave him all the more reason to aspire of winning a championship.

"I'm not so worried about the individual thing, the big thing is the team win a championship and that's my biggest motivation," said the Fil-Canadian veteran.

"That being said as well, I got to thank my teammates from last year, coaches, and everything for getting me involved, and trusting me and allowing me to showcase what I have."

His partnership at the frontcourt with Christian Standhardinger very much intact along with the addition of Kelly Nabong, plus a solid backcourt manned by Nico Elorde and new acquisition LA Revilla, Anthony feels confident about the Batang Pier's chances.
