Arwind Santos warns Beermen against complacency

Arwind Santos knows well that San Miguel Beer isn't out of the woods yet, so he encourages his teammates to stay focused and warned them against complacency.

SMB barged into the magic 8 and kept its playoff hope alive following Wednesday 128-108 win over Phoenix.

With replacement Chris McCullough making a good account of himself, the Beermen have won two straight to improve to 4-5 (win-lost) record.

With four playdates left in the eliminations, there's still a chance that SMB could miss the cut should it loses its last two assignments.

That scenario, according to Santos, is a compelling reason for the Beermen to play with a sense of urgency.

"Kailangan pagbutihan lang namin, wag kaming mawawala sa mga ginagawa namin at ma-maintain namin to hanggang sa dulo," Santos said, "Magugulat na lang kami, nandudun na kami sa finals."

Santos added that if McCullough could stay consistent the Beermen will be tough to beat.

The Beermen face the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Saturday in Cagayan de Oro City in a game that is vital to both teams. They wind up their elimination round campaign against the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

The last time SMB missed the playoffs was in the 2015 Commissioner's Cup when it started its campaign with 0-4 record. (JT)
