Bubble concept gets players' nod

KEEPING the players in a Bubble or a Semi-Bubble for a long period of time won't be a problem when the league resumes its stalled season.

During a dialogue with PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial on Wednesday, the players from the league's 12 teams assured Marcial that they are willing to be holed up in one roof for two months if that's what it takes to complete the Philippine Cup, which took the wraps off on March 8 with only one game before the coronavirus pandemic struck.

During the gathering, Comm. Marcial discussed the three Bubble categories - bubble, semi-bubble and closed-circuit that the league intends to use in its restart.

"Lahat sila willing maglaro sa NBA type bubble or semi-bubble. Ayaw nila ng closed-circuit. They requested to do away with it," Marcial said.

Comm. Marcial said that he will relay the players' sentiments to the PBA Board of Governors, who will meet on Thursday to decide which Bubble concept will be applied.

The bubble concept can be played either in Metro Manila or outside National Capital Region. The PBA board has already picked three possible sites for its season restart.

According to Marcial he also discussed the new testing protocol but would not discuss it thoroughly pending the approval of the IATF.

Marcial added that the players also inquired about amenities, rooms and accommodations.
