Castro sits out rest of Commissioner's Cup

JAYSON Castro is ruled out of the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Coach Chot Reyes doesn't see TNT Tropang Giga main man Jayson Castro returning to action in the mid-season conference after suffering what he termed as severe sprained ankle.

"Wala na yun. I don't think he can be back for the conference," said Reyes Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.

The 36-year-old Castro sat out the team's 140-108 loss to the Bay Area Dragons and is expected to do the same in the team's final game of the eliminations on Saturday against defending champion San Miguel.

The seven-time champion suffered the injury in the Tropang Giga's 89-85 loss against Barangay Ginebra in their previous game.

"Ang hirap pilitin, e. Remember galing na siya sa sprain sa finals (Philippine Cup)," said Reyes of the same injury that hounded Castro in the best-of-seven all-Filipino Cup finals against San Miguel.

Castro was in street clothes and watched the game of the Tropang Giga against the Dragons on the bench.

"Masakit pa at tsaka may kaunti pang maga," he said of his injured ankle. "One week pa ito. Baka ma-miss ko rin yung last game namin."

The third straight loss of TNT sent the team skidding further in the standings at 4-7 for 10th place, and in danger of missing the playoffs since the 2018 Governors Cup.(RG)
