Cone: Bolts didn't hit their shots

GINEBRA coach Tim Cone expects Meralco to be a different monster in Game Two of the PBA Governors Cup finals.

While ecstatic with the Kings' 102-87 win in the series opener Friday night in Lucena, Cone is aware the Bolts' didn't play according to their potential as the top seeded team heading into the playoffs of the season-ending meet.

The champion mentor said the reigning champions just happened to have caught their opponent 'on a cold shooting night' which was the reason behind the Kings' 15-point rout.

"There's a reason they dominated this conference and that has been their great and consistent play," said Cone on the eve of Sunday's game when the best-of-seven series returns at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

"They have been awesome all conference and we expect them to come back and hit shots at Araneta cause that's where we all play and we're all comfortable," he added. "We expect a battle for Game Two."

Meralco is the league's top three-point shooting team, averaging 37 percent per outing.

But at the Quezon Convention Center, the Bolts limped home by converting just 8 of their 24 shots from three-point range for a 24 percent shooting.

Ginebra actually shot better from the same area, doing 7 of 18 from a 39 percent clip led by rookie Kevin Ferrer (3 of 5).

The great team that it is, the Bolts however, will find a way to get their shots falling in the next game, which is Cone's biggest concern.

"I think the idea is that they didn't hit their shots. They had a lot of open shots and they didn't hit them," said the 59-year-old coach.

"It's an anomaly tonight that they missed shots, so we expect them to hit shots the next game, which will put a lot of pressure on our offense and defense. We just got to continue to try to defend and get out on the perimeter."
