Fajardo leads BPC race, King shows way in Best Import Award

JUNE Mar Fajardo is poised for another PBA Best Player of the Conference award.

The San Miguel big man showed the way in the race for the highest individual honor of the season-opener Governors' Cup by the end of the elimination phase.

Fajardo, coming off a similar BPC honor in the recent Philippine Cup, tops the statistical point standings going to the playoffs with a total of 43.9sps. He currently leads the league in rebounding with 15.0 boards, while averaging 21.3 points and 2.8 assists.

Giving Fajardo a challenge are Robert Bolick of NLEX, Northport's Arvin Tolentino, San Miguel teammate CJ Perez, and the resurgent Japeth Aguilar of Barangay Ginebra.

Bolick runs second behind the eighth-time MVP with 38.7sps as he ranks no. 1 in assists with 8.6, while averaging 20.4 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Tolentino is tops in scoring with 23.7 points to help him land at third spot with 37.5sps, while also submitting 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. The Batang Pier though, failed to advance in the quarterfinals.

Perez, winner of the same honor during last season's Commissioner's Cup, is at no. 4 with 37.0sps on averages of 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 steals, while Aguilar, playing with renewed energy for the Kings, accumulated 33.4sps (19.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists) to close out the Top 5.

Another Barangay Ginebra player in Scottie Thompson is next with 30.3sps behind averages of 12.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, barely ahead of Blackwater's Sedrick Barefield, who's the only rookie to make it to the Top 10 with 29.5sps (18.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists).

The rest of the race from nos. 8-10 are Alec Stockton of Converge (29.1sps), Ginebra sophomore Stephen Holt (28.4sps), and Meralco's Chris Newsome (28.1sps).

Meanwhile, Blackwater sensation George King shows the way in the Best Import Award with 61.7sps as he leads the league in scoring with 40.3 points and 13.1 rebounds.

Next to him is reigning Best Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson with 57.6sps while leading the league in assists with 6.2, 2.7 steals, and 2.1 block shots, followed by Dequan Jones of NLEX (55.3sps), Jordan Adams of San Miguel (50.1sps), and Jalen Jones of Converge (47.5sps).

Justine Brownlee, the three-time winner of the Best Import Award, is running at sixth place with 47.4sps, Aaron Fuller leads the league in rebounding with an average of 17.0 for seventh place with 46.8sps even as three-time Allen Durham of Meralco came in at eighth with 46.8sps
