For Brownlee, it all boils down to execution

BARANGAY Ginebra isn't playing like the two-time defending PBA Governors Cup champion and paid dearly for it as it now finds its back against the wall against Magnolia Pambansang Manok in their semifinals series.

Justine Brownlee said the Kings have not been executing their plays the past two games of the best-of-five series, which they currently trailed 0-2.

The prolific import said the team's turnovers reflected this, especially in Monday night's Game 2 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum which resulted in a 97-101 loss.

"They forced us to a lot of turnovers," said Brownlee as Ginebra committed a total of 23 turnovers compared to the 13 of Magnolia.

The Hotshots outscored the Kings in turnover points, 24-13.

In Ginebra's Game 1 loss, 106-98, the reigning champions had 22 turnovers to Magnolia's 18, which the Hotshots took advantage to outscore the Kings, 29-20.

"They showed their scrappiness off and they've been doing that all conference, and that's what they are," said Brownlee of the Hotshots.

The Ginebra import had another splendid game the last time with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. He had 11 points in the fourth quarter as the team again made a last-ditch rally that just fell short in the end.

"We kind of got back to our game, but still the effort wasn't enough," said Brownlee.

The Kings now need to sweep the last three games of the series to make it back to the finals of the conference for the third straight season.

It's definitely not an easy task, but knowing Ginebra, Brownlee said the team just won't quit.

"Definitely, we have that attitude (never-say-die)," said the well-loved import.

But first things first.

"The more important thing is how we approached the game. It's just not knowing offense and defense, but we have to execute," said Brownlee. (RG)
