Forte injured, NorthPort shopping for replacement

IT LOOKS like Cameron Forte's stint in the PBA would be a very short one.

A NorthPort insider said management and the coaching staff held a meeting Thursday to draw up a short list on who to tap as a replacement import for Forte, who is nursing a knee injury and would be out indefinitely.

"Maybe later today or tomorrow (Friday) meron ng decision on who to get as a replacement import," said the source, who requested anonymity since he is privy to the discussions.

"After that, US agents would be contacted kung sino sa mga options ang available and it would just be a matter of getting the new import to sign the contract, securing his working visa and bringing him in."

Currently sporting a 0-3 slate in the Governors' Cup, NorthPort is set to play all-Filipino again when it duels Barangay Ginebra Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After that, claimed the source, the Batang Pier would not play again until early next year, giving them enough leeway to bring in and acclimatize their new reinforcement.

"May enough time naman, kasi ang game against Ginebra is supposedly the team's last for the year so may enough time to get the new import in and familiarize him with the team," said the source.

"Of course, mayroon pang quarantine involved once he arrives here and he may not be able to see action ng hanggang first one or two games. Pero the team feels it's a risk worth taking kaysa naman tuluyang mabaon."

Forte averaged Forte averaged 17.5 points and 19 rebounds in NorthPort's first two narrow losses to Alaska and NLEX before being forced by the injury to sit out an 88-91 decision to San Miguel Beer last Sunday. (NC)
