Gillette, Pringle boost PBA's relief drive

THE Philippine Basketball Association continues to find backers, with Gillette and Barangay Ginebra player Stanley Pringle the latest to throw in help in the league's effort to extend a hand to frontliners in the fight against the COVID-19 menace.

Gillette donated P500,000 while Pringle put in P150,000, boosting the initial P1-million fund allocated by the PBA board of governors for PPEs (personal protective equipment) to be given to responders and health care workers.

On top of his P150,000 cash donations, Pringle, together with Kelly Nabong, brought in bags of rice and groceries to the PBA office.

"Like Gillette, sa PBA na ipinagkatiwala nila Pringle at Nabong yung donations nila para iparating sa mga nangangailangan," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

"I'm deeply touched by their kindness. At hindi lang si Pringle at Nabong ang mga PBA individuals na nagpakita ng kalakihan ng puso - marami doing it on their own. And I'm proud of our guys," Marcial also said.

Gillette's and Pringle's donations came in handy as the PBA Commissioner's Office is preparing a second wave of donations for hospitals in need of supplies.

"We all know many others are helping in this time of crisis. Our teams have their own relief efforts. For our own drive, dinadala natin ang tulong doon sa mga lugar na nilalaruan natin at doon sa mga nagre-request sa atin," said Marcial.

The league honcho mentioned hospitals in Pasig, Antipolo and Quezon City as the initial beneficiaries of the relief drive jumpstarted by the league board headed by Ricky Vargas of TNT.

The beneficiaries include the Antipolo City Hospital System, Annexes 3, Sitio Cabading, Barangay Inarawan through former Rizal Gov. Junjun Ynares; Pasig City General Hospital, Pasig Children's Hospital and Rizal Memorial Hospital through Pasig Vice-Mayor Iyo Bernardo; Ospital Ng Binan through Rep. Len Alonte and Binan Vice-Mayor Gel Alonte and Quirino Hospital, Philippine Children's Medical Center, Batangas Provincial Hospital, Philippine Mental Hospital, Talisay Health Center and Talisay Birthing Home.

For the second wave, being eyed are Pasay City through Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano, the Philippine Veterans Hospital and the Philippine National Police through Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. (SB)
