GlobalPort deals Nabong to San Miguel for Espinas

GlobalPort consummated Thursday another deal ahead of the June 22 trade deadline in the PBA Commissioner's Cup, acquiring Gabby Espinas from San Miguel Beer in exchange for Kelly Nabong.

On Tuesday, the Batang Pier reacquired Paolo Taha from Barangay Ginebra for Julian Sargent.

The Batang Pier are trying to fortify their lineup as they jockey for position in the middle of the chart in their last two games in the eliminations.

They tangle with Columbian Dyip Friday then tackle Barangay Ginebra in the penultimate playdate in the elims on July 6.

GlobalPort is at joint sixth with Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia at 4-5. San Miguel, meanwhile, has moved up to fifth place in winning four of its last five outings.

Espinas, the No. 5 pick in the 2006 draft, has essentially lost his spot in San Miguel's core rotation on the entry of Christian Standhardinger. He's returning to the GlobalPort team for which he played briefly in 2015.

The former NCAA Rookie MVP winner has also played with Air21, Barako Bull, Sta. Lucia, Meralco and Alaska.

Nabong, meanwhile, will be with his third team after Meralco and GlobalPort.(SB)
