Heading, Tungcab, Rangel poise as top special Gilas draft pick for Dyip

WHO goes where?

Terrafirma gets the first crack at tabbing any amongst Jaydee Tungcab, Tzaddy Rangel, and Jordan Heading as the top pick in the Special Gilas draft set on March 14.

Tungcab, Rangel, and Heading are the three names submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to the PBA Commissioner's Office who they will include as part of the Gilas men's pool team after the draft proceedings.

After the Dyip, NorthPort Batang Pier take their turn at no. 2, followed by NLEX Road Warriors.
The order of selection in the Gilas draft is the same as the regular draft that follows shortly after.

The SBP earlier told the league Board it will submit a 'minimum of three and maximum of five players' to be handpicked as new members of the national training pool.

The three will join Isaac Go, brothers Matt and Mike Nieto, and Rey Suerte as full-time members of the Gilas pool. Allyn Bulanadi, who was also a part of the five-man Gilas special draft in 2019, is still recuperating from a shoulder surgery.

The SBP expressed gratitude to the PBA for always lending a hand to the country's governing body for the sport.

"We were able to secure five players from the Gilas Draft in 2019, and we're happy to welcome three additional talents in Jordan Heading, Jaydee Tungcab, and Tzaddy Rangel," said SBP chief Al S. Panlilio, who also represents Meralco in the PBA Board.

Tungcab stands 6-foot-3 and a product of University of the Philippines. He was set to play as an Asian import in the Japan B. League but travel restrictions following the rise in cases of new COVID-19 strains complicated his situation.

The 6-foot-8 Rangel and 6-foot-2 Heading come out of National University and California Baptist University, respectively. The two are teammates with San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), with Heading being a product too, of the Batang Gilas program.

"We thank the three for their trust and commitment to the program," added Panlilio. "Over a short span, we've seen the development of the program and of the players' individual talents as well, and we're confident that the upcoming Gilas draftees will benefit greatly under program director Tab Baldwin and his outstanding staff of coaches."
