JMF clashes with Balti, Arana in keenly awaited SMB-Converge tiff

JORDAN Heading has made his debut as a TNT player and Mikee Williams is expected to follow suit as a Converge FiberXer most probably by the playoffs.

In the meantime, the FiberXers continue to fight for the best seeding that they can get in the post-elims play as they play their final game in the PBA Philippine Cup elims versus the San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

They slug it out in the 7:30 p.m. mainer of the third to the last playdate in the elims.

It's one of the big games in the elims homestretch with the FiberXers eyeing a 7-4 win-loss closing card while the Beermen try to put a lock on a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarters.

June Mar Fajardo and his teammates are currently at 7-2 with a chance at either No. 1 or No. 2 if they sweep their last two games versus Converge and NorthPort.

But coach Leo Austria doesn't see an easy path especially against the Converge team that is determined to end their elims stint on a winning note and build momentum for the playoffs.

Mathematically, the FiberXers are actually still in the running for the Top Four and its win-once reward. At worst, Converge will be No. 6 if it beats San Miguel.

And so it's expected to be a battle - the keenly awaited SMB-Converge dispute that will feature Fajardo's exciting clashes with FiberXers young giants in Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar.

Of course, the Beermen will also have to deal with Alec Stockton, Schonny Winston, Kevin Racal and Bryan delos Santos, among the other key players in coach Franco Atienza's rotation.

The Beermen, however, are riding the momentum of a four-game run, with their latest win coming at the expense of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 120-111, in a road game in Cagayan de Oro on Saturday.(SB)
