Kiefer Ravena says losing Kevin Alas early in the game contributed to NLEX defeat in Game 5

ANTIPOLO CITY - Kiefer Ravena felt that losing Kevin Alas to injury early in the game left a big hole in NLEX's rotation and Magnolia capitalized on it to pull away for an 87-78 victory in Game 5 of their semi-final duel at the Ynares Sports Center here.

That gave the Hotshots Ang Pambansang Manok a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven semi-final series of the PBA Philippine Cup.

Alas left the game only a few seconds into Game 5 after hurting his right knee while trying to drive past a phalanx of defenders.

"That was big, it kind of messed up our rotation," said Ravena. "Wala pang one minute into the game and he was one of those who was motivating us as one of our co-captains.

"He was really motivating us before the game, reminding us to be sharp, and that happens. Were praying for him. He's an integral part of this system and an integral part of this franchise. We wish him the best."

Ravena finished with 21 points and five assists as NLEX battled Magnolia toe to toe for three quarters until the Road Warriors lost their rhythm and struggled offensively midway in the fourth quarter.

The NLEX rookie readily took note of Magnolia's 16-4 burst that gave the Hotshots Ang Pambansang Manok a 75-62 lead on the way to regaining the series lead.

"Breaks of the game, it happens," he said. "Sometimes it happens to your side, sometimes sa kalaban. Sabi nga ni coach (Yeng Guiao), ito yung talo na kailangan mong itake. Wala kang gagawin. Defensively, we were there. Breaks of the game.

"I would summarize it all in that five-minute stretch where we couldn't buy a basket. Credit it to the defense of Magnolia," added Ravena.(JT)
