Kings to shout 'Bagong Tapang' mantra in title defense

THE Barangay Ginebra Kings will continue to be among those providing encouragement and inspiration, just as what is pushed in their new thrust.

For their coming defense of their Philippine Cup title, the Gin Kings will wear new playing uniform honoring the courage and strength that Filipinos show in this difficult time.

Along with this, they will run a promo, offering limited-edition merchandise, with part of the proceeds to be given to Ginebra San Miguel's non-profit organization partner Gawad Kalinga.

The jersey can be availed at redemption outlets nationwide for only P100 plus six caps of Ginebra products. There's also a cap that can be purchased for P150 plus six bottle seals.

"Naramdaman namin at nakita ang hirap ng bawat ka-barangay," said guard Scottie Thompson, pitching in this worthy endeavor that will benefit those hit hardest by the pandemic.

And trumpeting their never-say-die battle cry on the hardcourt, the Gin Kings encourage the Filipinos not to quit even amidst the struggle.

"Sa panahon ngayon kailangan natin ng tapang. Alam mo tayong mga Filipino 'di tayo basta-basta sumusuko. Kaya this bagong tapang will help us survive," said Mark Caguioa.

Japeth Aguilar said this attitude helped them big time in their title run in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup bubble play.

"Marami kaming naging challenges kasama yung takot na any time pwede kaming magkasakit, mental struggle na malayo sa pamilya. Dun sa mga panahon na yon nabuo yung bagong tapang," said Aguilar.

Thompson, Caguioa, Aguilar, Stanley Pringle and LA Tenorio are featured in the Ginebra promo, wearing their new "One Ginebra Nation" jersey. (SB)
