Knee injury cut short Denzel Bowles' tour of duty, Rain or Shine's playoff bid in peril

Rain or Shine is working double time to find a replacement import for the injured Denzel Bowles.

RoS coach Caloy Garcia confirmed on Sunday that Bowles hurt his knee so bad in the Elasto Painters' 86-84 win over the Alaska Aces on Saturday and can no longer continue to play in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Bowles went down after colliding with Jeron Teng with 4:10 left in the second quarter. During the collision Bowles reportedly heard something crack in his knee.

Attending physicians at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center said Bowles had a medial meniscus tear and a small medial collateral ligament tear in his right knee.

The latest development put the E-Painters' playoff bid in jeopardy.

Garcia said he is keeping his fingers crossed that a replacement import will be able to arrive in time for the all-important game against Magnolia Ang Pambansang Manok on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Elasto Painters are tied with the Phoenix Fuel Masters at sixth spot with 4-5 (win-lost) mark and are hard pressed to win their last two assignments. They wind up their elimination round campaign against scrambling San Miguel on Saturday in Cagayan de Oro.

The 30-year-old Bowles was averaged 28.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in nine games in the eliminations. (JT)
