Loss to Ginebra should serve as motivation for San Miguel, says Arwind Santos

Arwind Santos said San Miguel's humbling defeat to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals should serve as a motivation for the Beermen to regain the hunger factor that allowed them to win six championships in the last three years.

The Beermen's run of six straight victories in the Finals came to an end when the Kings won the last three games of the series that ended with a 93-77 triumph in Game 6 last Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ganun talaga," Santos said.

It was San Miguel's first Finals defeat since coach Leo Austria took charge in the 2014-15 season, the same period that started the Beermen's run of success.

The loss also cost the Beermen a shot at winning the grand slam for the second time. Interestingly, it was also the Ginebra Kings who denied the Beermen at their first attempt to win the coveted 'Triple Crown' last season by eliminating San Miguel in the quarterfinals of the Governors' Cup. Ginebra eventually won the championship.

The Beermen will try to make a quick recovery in the season-ending Governors' Cup with import Arizona Reid, hoping to give SMB another title after leading the team to the championship in 2015 title of the same conference.(JT)
