The man simply called "The Beast" vowed to play for Alaska today, Friday against Phoenix Fuel Masters. The Aces are coming off a 99-91 loss against the Meralco Bolts and Abueva felt the urgency to help out his team despite his condition.

But Abueva did not show signs of slowing down.

In Gilas' Thursday practice, Abueva was in attendance although he didn't join the team's scrimmage as per doctor's advice.

The hardworking forward affirmed his commitment to play for the national team as well as the Aces' crucial game against the Fuel Masters.

"Malayo ito sa bituka," said Abueva.

Abueva will be a 'Masked Beast' tonight, though.

The mask, according to Alaska Aces coach Alex Compton, is going to protect Abueva all the way down to the mouth.

Abueva said it will be available before their game although he still has no idea how it looks like.

"I don't think you can keep Calvin away from practice. Gustung-gusto niya parating mag-practice,"" said Reyes.

It's just a question of if he's ready to practice, but you can't keep him away from practice," Reyes added.
