Marcial in Senate: PBA can always be counted on for help

THE new normal needs new heroes. But then, there are the old heroes who, in the passing of time, remain unceasing in extending anything they can to help tide things over.

Count numerous PBA personalities, led by the generous team owners.

Thus, instead of asking for help, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial just expressed his sincerest gratitude and gave assurance the PBA and the individuals in its circle can be counted on as partners of the government in aiding the Filipino people.

"Sa hirap nang pinagdadaanan ng lahat ay nakakaraos pa rin naman po ang PBA. At ipinararating po ng aming chairman, Mr. Ricky Vargas, na kung may i-o-offer kayong tulong ay itulong na lang po natin sa mas nangangailangan," said Marcial in the hearing held by the Senate committee on finance Friday.

With just about everybody feeling the crunch in this time of crisis, Sen. Sonny Angara called the meeting to figure how can the government help the private sector's plight amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Angara wanted to hear from the private sector how the crisis has affected businesses and how the government can help businessmen get back on track.

"Moving forward, we will determine what must be done to help them minimize their losses and preserve the jobs of their employees now that they will have to operate under a drastically different environment that we are calling the new normal," said Angara.

The industry is badly hit, including the respective businesses of the PBA team owners. But this didn't stop them from being major responders in this crisis.

Marcial mentioned SMC boss Ramon S. Ang, MVP Group chief Manny V. Pangilinan, NorthPort owner and House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero and Phoenix Pulse owner and Presidential Adviser on Sports Dennis Uy.

Then there are Alaska Milk's Wilfred Uytengsu, Raymond Yu and Terry Que of Rain or Shine, Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater and Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez of Columbian Dyip.
