Matthew Wright wishes nothing but success for Team Pilipinas

Matthew Wright does not feel bad that his name wasn't included in the training pool of Team Pilipinas preparing for the sixth window of the FIBA Asian World Cup Qualifiers.

The Phoenix star was noticeably left out of the 14-man pool that was announced by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas last Tuesday.

"That's out of my control, I can't control that. That's the coach's decision," said Wright. "I wish them all the best."

Named to the pool were Andre Blatche, Mark Barroca, Roger Pogoy, Raymond Almazan, Jayson Castro, Paul Lee, Scottie Thompson, Marcio Lassiter and Gabe Norwood.

Troy Rosario, Japeth Aguilar, Poy Erram and June Mar Fajardo complete list along with Christian Standhardinger, who was named back-up naturalized player.

Team Pilipinas must win its last two road games against Kazakhstan and Qatar next month to hopefully qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The Fil-Canadian wishes nothing but success for Team Pilipinas.

"I know Andray [Blatche] is back so hopefully we can get two wins. We need those two wins so I wish all those guys the best," Wright said, adding he's always willing to play for the national team.

'Whenever my name is called for the country, I'm ready for duty," Wright said. (JB)
