PBA clubs eye return to old haunts as NCR plus eases to GCQ

PRACTICALLY all PBA teams immediately eyed training venue relocation after the government announced late Thursday the NCR Plus is easing to General Community Quarantine.

At posting time, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said at least six teams have requested endorsement letters for the local government units where their regular training venues are located.

But there are teams that may still push through with their plans to train outside the NCR Plus, pending completion of necessary papers that will allow their return to their old hubs.

The Blackwater Elite, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters and the Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots are teams with confirmed bookings in Batangas City Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A big question is whether the Meralco Bolts will push through with their planned training bubble in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. They were scheduled to travel to the Queen City of the North Saturday.

"Everyone's happy hearing the news of Metro Manila shifting to GCQ," said Marcial of the development allowing PBA ball clubs to hold team activities, including 5-on-5 scrimmages, in the NCR as per the earlier resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force.

"Kailangan na lang nila ng LGU permit, and Metro Manila training is a go," added Marcial.

The league has earlier gotten the nod of the IATF followed by the Joint Administrative Order from the Department of Health, Games and Amusements Board and Philippine Sports Commission.

And league officials hope that minus hitches in training, they may be able to kick off Season 46 Philippine Cup by June.

"Pero hindi na muna namin paguusapan 'yan. We'll try our very best first to keep everybody safe and protected while doing the scrimmages in the next few weeks. Dito muna tayo," said Marcial. (SB)
