PBA Homecourt gifted disabled fan with a wheelchair

FROM shirts, goodies, and now wheelchair.

The PBA Homecourt levelled up on Tuesday when it gave away a wheelchair to a lucky fan who was around when the league visited Barangay Holy Spirit in Commonwealth.

The beneficiary of a new wheelchair is 31-year-old Orlando Porio of Kasiyahan, Brgy. Holy Spirit and an avid supporter of the NLEX Road Warriors.

He was given the wheelchair by chance as the PBA entourage that included former MVP Arwind Santos of San Miguel, Raoul Soyud of NLEX, and Commissioner Willie Marcial were on their way back to the league office when they happen to pass by a small halfcourt along a narrow street.

"Hindi kasama sa mga bibisitahin namin yun. Napadaan lang kami. Pero ganun kasi yung gusto ko. Halfcourt na may naglalaro ng tatluhan at maraming tao," said Marcial.

The group dropped by and had shootaround with the crowd that included Porio, who sat on his dilapidated wheelchair.

"Nakita namin siya, kinausap ng kaunti tapos sinabihan padadalhan siya ng PBA ng bagong wheelchair," said Marcial.

Porio, who's now under the care of aunt Susan Makatigbak, got an added bonus as he had his photo taken with Soyud, one of NLEX's back-up big man.

"Kahit ganito po ako, pag nakikita ko at napapanood ang mga idol ko, lalo po akong ginaganahan na lumaban," said the NLEX fan.

Adding spice to the barangay visit was the presence of Paolo Felizarte, the fan in a Spiderman costume who ran the court during Game 5 of the Philippine Cup finals between San Miguel and Magnolia.

Felizarte came by to fulfill his promise in helping the league in its social and charity activities.

As expected, Felizarte participated in the activities wearing his Spiderman costume

Aside from Kasiyahan, also visited were courts in Brgy Pasong Tamo and Winnie Castelo Welfare Complex.(RG)
