THE leadership of the PBA and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) recently met with the Victorian Government Trade and Investment Southeast Asia (VGTI SEA) and Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) to explore on both sports and business.

The talk centered on sports education, training and management, event organization, sports facilities, and a bit of business enterprise.

The meeting came as the two countries are set to host two major international events in the next four years.

The Philippines will be co-hosting the 2023 FIBA World Cup with Japan and Indonesia, while the state of Victoria is staging Victoria 2026 otherwise known as the Commonwealth Games.

"It was a great opportunity to come together to exchange ideas and also discuss the unique power of sports in bringing people, nations, and communities closer together," said the VGTI SEA and Austrade in a statement.

"We believe sports diplomacy will support current bilateral relationships and strong people to people links by fostering positive and direct interaction between Australia and the Philippines."

The PBA was represented by commissioner Willie Marcial and Jo Francisco, while executive director and spokesperson Sonny Barrios came in behalf of the SBP.

Commissioner for Victoria to Southeast Asia Rebecca Hall led the Australian delegation. (RG)
