PBA secures special permit to keep games going

ACTION in the PBA Philippine Cup will remain even though Metro Manila has been put under GCQ (General Community Quarantine) with heightened restrictions after the confirmed local transmission of the Delta COVID variant.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) disclosed the league was able to secure a special permit for its games to push through despite the new lockdown restrictions imposed by the government on Friday.

"May special permit kasi ang PBA. And they submitted strict guidelines for health protocols," said MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Jojo Garcia.

Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Baham Mitra confirmed the league's special permit received from the MMDA.

"The process is being followed as submitted and adherence to the health and safety protocols that are all being done," he said."

The Department of Health (DoH) confirmed on Thursday the transmission of the Delta COVID-variant in the country which led President Duterte to put the National Capital Region and other provinces under GCQ with heightened restrictions until July 31.

Games at the Ynares Sports Arena will go on as Barangay Ginebra faces Blackwater at 3 p.m. and San Miguel battles NLEX in the 6 p.m. main game.
