Pido Jarencio says rest crucial in playoff race

GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio rued his team's monumental collapse in the second half because of fatigue and lack of energy that paved the way to Magnolia's 96-81 victory over the Batang Pier last Friday.

"Wala eh pagod na pagod. Walang energy. Si Stanley (Pringle) nga is cramping kaya hindi na maka-shoot", said Jarencio.

In the first half the Batang Pier were still competitive leading by double digits.

"At least makita mo 'yung team sa first half competitive. Up pa nga ng eleven , twelve kasi fresh pa kami", said Jarencio.

It was Batang Pier's fifth loss in nine games but they're still very much in contention to make it to the quarterfinals.

Jarencio is now looking forward to a long rest for his players before their matchups with Kia Picanto and Phoenix on Feb. 21 and March 2 respectively.

"Against Kia we have a five-day break kaya fresh na naman kami against Kia and then after that meron na naman kaming ten days rest against Phoenix," added Jarencio.

The Batang Pier mentor cited the importance of rest for a team.

"Malaking bagay yung nakakapahinga ka. Just like what happened sa Talk n' Text . They played five games, three games in one week. Kaya pagdating sa 'min hirap na hirap. Pagod na kasi sila", said Jarencio. (Zaldy Perez)
