RoS next course of action depends on final draft list

RAIN or Shine is taking a wait and see approach before making its move for the coming PBA 46th season.

Coach Caloy Garcia said the Elasto Painters are still holding fire on the course of action to take not until the final list of applicants are in for the league's 2021 rookie draft.

Like the rest of the teams, Garcia sees the coming draft as one of the deepest in terms of talent that it's too early at this point for anyone to make drastic movements.

"As of now, were' waiting for the submission of draftees para at least mapag-aralan namin yun team namin on what we need, and at the same time, are we going to do any moves," said the 45-year-old mentor.

Garcia hopes most of the rookie applicants especially the Fil-foreigners, will be able to satisfy all the requirements needed from them by the league.

At the same time, teams are also on a standby whether there would be a special Gilas drafting this year just like during the 2019 draft.

"We're picking no. 5 and I think we have three picks in the second round," said the Rain or Shine mentor. "So hopefully, yung mga pangalan na nag-submit mapayagan ng PBA."

"Yun pa ang isang hinihintay namin kung may Gilas draft ba or wala," he added.

With everything on a standstill, priority for Rain or Shine right now is for its players to start practicing and get back in shape.

Garcia already met with his coaching staff before he went into the Calamba bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Laguna to join the coaching staff of Gilas Pilipinas for the national team's training in the coming FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.

"I met with my coaching staff before I went here in the bubble, and we continue with our zoom meetings at the same time. Right now, we're just waiting for us to be allowed to practice," he said.

"Yung mga player naman are attending our workouts. Hopefully once they start us allowing to practice in the gym, we'll start right away."

The PBA are currently waiting the go-signal from the respective Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) on when individual team practices will be permitted. (RG)
