San Miguel goes for No. 4 spot, Alaska resumes chase of playoff berth

SAN Miguel Beer tries to secure fourth spot while Alaska Milk goes for the first of two wins it needs for an outright quarterfinals passage as the two teams clash in the penultimate play date of the PBA Philippine Cup elims at the DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga Wednesday.

The Beermen and the Aces slug it out at 6 p.m. in what is actually the third to the last game of the elims.

San Miguel is assured of a quarterfinals berth but is yet to determine its playoff seedings. The Beermen clinch No. 4 spot with a win over the Aces.

Alaska, meanwhile, is on the brink, needing a sweep of its last two games to enter the Final Eight.

After playing three games in three successive days from last Friday, the Aces play back-to-back matches against the Beermen and the NorthPort Batang Pier.

At least they got a two-day breather Monday and Tuesday, and the Aces hope it's enough for their legs to recover and be ready for another tough grind to close out their elims campaign.

In their return from a two-week layoff to observe the league's health and safety protocols, the Aces drubbed the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 89-75.

But with weary legs, the Aces lost their next two games against the TNT Tropang Giga, 85-103, and the Terrafirma Dyip, 89-105.

Now comes the San Miguel side looking to bounce back from a loss to Magnolia the last timeout and build momentum going to the playoffs.

A win will make the Beermen the fourth seed behind the Tropang Giga, and the Meralco Bolts and the Magnolia Hotshots who are still disputing second and third spots.
