THEY are wise men helping guide the youngsters in a journey.
Proud members of this group are Asi Taulava, Mark Caguioa, Reynel Hugnatan, Harvey Carey, Billy Mamaril and Rafi Reavis - warriors in their 40s joining the PBA bubble play in Clark starting Oct. 11.
NLEX's Taulava is easily the most battle-scarred, stretching his PBA playing career to 22 years at 47 years old. He's not expected to play long minutes, though, but rather provide relief and some stability.
Also blessed with a fountain of youth is Reavis who, at least last season, was still a solid core member of the Magnolia rotation. The No. 2 pick in the 2002 rookie draft is now 43 years old.
Hugnatan is the torch-carrier for Meralco in terms of longevity.
Like Reavis, Hugnatan still plays good minutes in his 40s. He still got his moments last season as seen in his 16-point showing in a tough loss to Rain or Shine in the Philippine Cup.
The University of Manila alum is turning 42 inside the bubble on Nov. 3.
Caguioa is another player turning a year older while the PBA Clark play is in progress.
The 2012 MVP awardee is turning 41 on Nov. 19, hoping to still be of help as the Ginebra Gin Kings seek a follow-up to their 2019-2020 Governors Cup championship conquest.
Carey is TNT's senior statesman at 41. The No. 4 pick in the 2003 draft is very much in the thick of things for the KaTropa especially with Kelly Williams opting to call it quits.
San Miguel has a member of the Club 40s in Mamaril.
The 40-year-old is tipped to see some minutes with June Mar Fajardo out of the bubble. (SB)
