Terrence Romeo's ability to defend will be put to test

San Miguel's Terrence Romeo is not worrying about his production when the Beermen take on the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok in the deciding Seventh Game of their PBA Philippine Cup titular series.

Romeo said he will have his hands full trying to defend against Magnolia's backcourt duo of Mark Barroca and Jio Jalalon.

While he isn't exactly comfortable playing defense, Romeo said he is willing to do anything to help San Miguel win its fifth straight Philippine Cup title and end his long search for a championship.

"Mindset ko lang talaga is dumipensa kung pano ma-stop si Kuya Mark at Jio kasi merong mga ii-score sa amin," Romeo said.

Barroca is averaging 16.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals in the series, although he was held to just six points on 3-of-10 shooting in Sunday's Game 6 won by the Beermen, 98-86, to force a deciding seventh game.

Jalalon, on the other hand, has posted 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.2 steals in the Finals.

Romeo is averaging 12.3 points on just 31 percent from the field in the series. He has never won a championship since entering the league in 2013.

"Sobrang motivated ako na makuha tong championship para din sa family ko kaya gagawin ko ang best ko," he said.

"Hindi ko lang laban ito, laban ito ng San Miguel at napakagaling ng mga kakampi ko," he added. (JT)
