TnT welcomes needed break before playoffs 'war'

RECOVER, rest, and prepare.

As the TnT Tropang Giga gear up for playoff battle in the PBA Philippine Cup, the team needs all the comfort it can get given all eyes will be on them as the no. 1 seeded team going to the quarterfinals.

Coach Chot Reyes welcomes the benefit of a one-week rest TnT will have after finishing its elimination round campaign ahead of the other teams still in the fight or seeking a better placing in the quarterfinal round.

The Tropang Giga finished on top of the standings with a 10-1 record.

Right off the bat, Reyes said its imperative for the team to stay healthy, and the needed break would be good enough for the players to rest including injured back-ups Glenn Khobuntin and Kib Montalbo.

Khobuntin missed out TnT's last four outings because of a strained groin, while Montalbo sat out its final game against Alaska due to a knee injury.

"Hopefully this one week break can get everyone healthy," said Reyes.

And then there's the need to get better as a team as the going is expected to get tougher in the playoffs.

"There are areas that we wanted to shore up. There are still some lapses on defense. We're trying to consistently upgrade our defense as well as our execution on offense. You know those are little things," said the TnT coach.

"That's why for us, we're focus on getting better. Believe me there are areas we are really focus on in our practice, in our viewing that we feel we should get better if we're going to compete and beat the big boys." (RG)
