Yap confident E-Painters will bounce back

Rain or Shine's loss to Barangay Ginebra in the opener of their PBA Commissioner's Cup best-of-five semi-finals will not dampen James Yap's determined effort to beat the league's crowd favorite in the series.

Yap said there are still four games, more than enough to bounce back from an 89-109 defeat against the Kings on Sunday.

"Kayang-kaya pa yan. Makakabawi kami," Yap vowed.

It won't be easy though. According to Yap if the Elasto Painters intend to level the best of five series, they have to find ways to counter the Kings vaunted post defense .

"Hirap na hirap kaming pasahan si Regie (Jonhson) sa post dahil pini-pressure nila masyado," noted Yap, who is in his first semi-final appearance since being traded by Star to ROS two seasons ago.

"Siguro gagawa kami ng adjustment doon para hindi gaanong ma-pressure ang import namin sa Game Two," he added.

Yap fired 15 points in 32 minutes, a far cry from his 27-point output when they beat Global Port last week to arrange a semi-final showdown with Ginebra.

"Ang dami kong tutukan na attempts na hindi na-convert. Pero talagang ganun nangyayari yun sa laro. Sana sa Game Two papasok na", Yap said.

He said they should also be able to adjust during the game and create more mismatches which the E-Elasto Painters failed to do in the opener. (Zaldy Perez)
