Displaying an all-around performance in San Miguel Beer’s last 2 games in the Commissioner’s Cup eliminations, Fil-American guard Chris Ross went on to earn the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of May 29-June 4.
The 6-2 Ross averaged solid numbers of 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 10.0 assists and 2.5 steals last week after leading San Miguel Beer to victories over Blackwater and GlobalPort. The last two victories enabled San Miguel to clinch the second seed in the quarterfinals along with one of the two twice-to-beat incentives at stake.
The 32-year-old SMB guard helped the Beermen complete their comeback from a 16-point halftime after finishing with 14 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 assists to beat the Blackwater Elite, 124-113 last Wednesday.
Ross sustained his all-around game three days later as San Miguel officially clinched a twice-to-beat advantage with its 112-101 victory over GlobalPort.
The former Marshall University is expected to elevate his game further at the start of the playoffs this week where the Beermen only need to win once against the seventh-ranked Phoenix Fuel Masters.
