A rejuvenated Sonny Thoss is making things happen again for Alaska since being slowed down by an assortment of injuries the past few conferences.
At 35, Thoss has showed no signs of slowing down, playing a key role on the defensive end, while showing efficiency on offense to help Alaska to two huge wins this past week.
The 6-foot-7 James Cook University standout delivered 11 points, while more importantly slowed down Mahindra’s athletic import James White in the final stretch of the fourth period to help Alaska hammer out a 98-92 decision last Wednesday.
Four days later, the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP fired a personal conference-high 15 points, hauled down five rebounds and issued two assists as Alaska squeaked past last year’s Finals tormentor Rain or Shine, 105-102.
“I just tried to give whatever I can to the team,” said Thoss, whose stellar showing earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of March 26-April 1, beating a solid bunch of contenders led by Alaska teammate Calvin Abueva, TNT rookie Roger Pogoy, Star freshman guard Jio Jalalon and wingman Allen Maliksi, San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot, as well as Meralco’s Baser Amer.

Alaska will have six days before getting another acid test against the Alex Stepheson-led Meralco Bolts on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
