Black, AMA test mettle of Marinerong Pilipino

AARON Black looks to continue his stellar play in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup when AMA Online Education locks horns with Marinerong Pilipino on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The son of PBA great and current Meralco coach Norman Black has been tearing it up this conference, already having two triple-doubles under his belt in just his first two games in the developmental league.

Black is currently averaging 25.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 12.5 assists, including a 26-point, 16-rebound, 14-assist performance in the Titans' 110-92 domination of iWalk last week which improved their card to 1-1.

AMA coach Mark Herrera has been familiar with Black's game as he had the opportunity to mentor the 22-year-old before, and he's totally elated to see him flourish with the Titans.

"Binibigyan ko siya ng kumpiyansa. Kilala ko na siya simula bata pa; naging player ko nung nag-13 under ako. Nakita ko na kakayahan niya. Ngayon naibibigay ko na yung gusto niyang laro, nagpapasalamat naman tayo," he said.

So stopping Black will be the primary goal of the Skippers when they meet at 5:30 p.m.

"May special plan kami para kay Aaron Black," revealed Marinerong Pilipino coach Yong Garcia. "Pero our focus is sa team defense. Dapat ang buong AMA ang paghandaan namin."

The Skippers are fresh from a 118-71 domination of Hazchem in their debut last Monday, and they have their sights set on a repeat as a victory would improve their win-loss card to 2-0 to seize early leadership of Group A.

Ex-pro Eloy Poligrates, JR Alabanza, and Dan Sara will once again take the lead for Marinerong Pilipino.
