Aljun Melecio working hard to get himself ready for the PBA

ALJUN Melecio is well aware of the challenges that he will face should he make it to the PBA.

To prepare himself, the 5-foot-8 La Salle playmaker is doing the rounds for some advice from his seniors who are already in the league.

"Since I applied for the PBA draft, I made it a point to seek some pointers from my seniors," admits Melecio, referring Jason Perkins, Jeron Teng, and Kib Montalbo. Marami akong nakukuhang advice sa kanila,"

Melecio said all the players he visited practically told him to be ready for the rough-and-tumble style of play in the pro league.

"I have to learn how to adjust dahil iba na yung laro doon. Also, kailangan mas alaga ka sa katawan mo," said the former UAAP Rookie of the Year.

Those pointers should come in handy for Melecio, who could play against Perkins, Teng, or TNT's Montalbo if he gets lucky to be drafted.

Many coaches, who have seen how the 22-year-old has developed his skills during his time with the Green Archersbelieve that the 22-year-old is ready, readily contends that Melecio is one of the few court generals available in this year's draft.

His numbers will attest to it: 10.6 points on 32-percent shooting from deep, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per game during the UAAP Season 82.

Melecio acknowledges that it will be a different ball game once he gets into the PBA so the bottom line is for him to step up his game and be ready for the challenge.

"I know na marami akong adjustments na kailangan gawin going to the PBA dahil hindi na college basketball ito," he said. "Kung ano man yung role na lalaruin ko, I am more than willing to work on it. I'll work on my spot." (RL)
